How much land transfer tax will I pay buying in Toronto?
Two of them: the Ontario land transfer tax and the City’s municipal one, on the same purchase. First-time buyers can claim both rebates, up to $4,000 provincially and up to $4,475 from the City, which cancels out much of it on a modestly priced home.
What does that mean for a first-time buyer in Toronto?
You can claim the Ontario land transfer tax refund of up to $4,000 and, because Toronto sits inside the City of Toronto, the municipal rebate of up to $4,475 as well. Between the two, most of the land transfer tax on an entry-level purchase here comes back to you.
